What files would I have to modify to switch from DHCP to a static IP?  My router keeps changing the IP address and it's frustrating to have to look it up all the time.

The scripts don't care what the IP address is. So there are no changes needed to use a static IP. The easiest way, for most routers is to reserve the IP address that is already assigned. So the router will always assign the same IP address to the RPi. You will need to access the admin dashboard of your router, i.e. 192.168.1.1 then enter the username and password which is usually on the bottom of your router. Many times they are both 'admin'. There are a number of web sites that will help with this, here's one' https://www.lifewire.com/accessing-your-router-at-home-818205

Once at the dashboard, you will need to look for 'Reserve IP' or 'Assign IP'. Once you reserve the IP you should always be able to use it going forward. If you have more questions, I'll try to help. - Mark

Thanks Mark - Yea, I'm aware of how to set up a reservation on my router.  I may just do that.  Would be cool if there was a way to modify the IP address of the Pi through the LiveSectional web page.

Thanks for all your help in this forum!  Everyone is blown away at my LED Sectional when they see it.

This may be my ignorance asking this, but how would the RPi be able to specify a static IP? I'd be all for doing something like that through the web interface, but my understanding is that the IP address is always dictated by the router. If you have info to the contrary, please point me in the right direction and I'll do some research. - Mark

BTW: if you haven't already, send a few pics of your map. We'd love to see it.

Well, I'll answer your ignorance with possibly more ignorance.   Lol.

It's all running on a Linux kernal, right?  If not, then I don't know.  But if so, couldn't you have the web page change the ifconfig file?  Again, I know a ton about networking, but just a touch about Linux.  Even less on how the Pi works and how LiveSectional runs and what OS it is running.  I'd be happy to help if it's something you want to dive in to.

Here is a pic:

And here's a vid of it in action.  None of these show the legend at the upper right completed, but that's done.
