Armand, sorry you got caught up in the freeze there in Texas. That can't be fun.

Thanks for the pictures. You seem to have it wired properly now. Good job. You won't need the diode if you already have the level shifter chip. You can use one or the other, but the level shifter is a better solution.

So it would seem that the issue is getting the image to properly boot. I'm assuming that you are using the updated image from livesectional.com? We updated and upgraded the OS in hopes this would allow it to boot your new RPi. If you are not, then download the latest image from https://www.livesectional.com/downloads/ and then reboot.

If you are using it, then the only thing I can suggest is to try another RPI, like a RPi 3b which are widely available. I'm still confused that your RPi 4 isn't running the image, but it works with Bill's RPi 4. Let us know and stay warm. - Mark

hey Mark,

So I tried both the image in the download link in the thread above and the one from the website but both give me errors. They are different errors codes though. I also noticed that the download file sizes are different.  I posted a pic of the error code I get from the download on the websites download page.

20210220 170025

The file size from the website download size is 1.41 gb but the one I download from the thread above is 4.34 gb. Ill see if I can get a different Raspberry Pi and try it again with both .img files and give an update.

Armand, they should be the same image. The difference is the one on the web site was shrunk to allow it to fit on an 8 gig SD card. Other than that they should be the same. Please try another RPi and let me know. Give us the model and memory size of your RPi again so we can try to figure this out. Thanks for your help with this. - Mark

Hey Mark,

I am using the raspberry Pi 4 Model B- 8GB. I ordered a Raspberry Pi 3 and will update you once it comes in.

Hey Mark, So I got the new raspberry pi 3 and I got it to somewhat work. The issue I'm having now is setting the leds to airports

. I had 3 strips connected but figured I would need more power so I disconnected the 2 and only left 1. When I enter the led to control it is not consistent on the led selection. sometimes number 2 will light up and other times number 3 when I click on led 2 to light up. I noticed that other led selections will light up 2 or sometimes 3 different leds. Any idea on what it might be?

Thanks for the video, that helps. A couple of thoughts. I noticed that the number of LED's listed on your page was 183. While it shouldn't effect the LED issue you are discussing, it might be worth setting that to the number you will actually be using.

If you have 2 LED's lit have you clicked 'All Off', and if so did both LED's turn off? It should. If not, then that's another issue to explore.

Also, tell us what you did to get things going. If I remember correct, you couldn't boot because you were using an RPi4, correct? Did you use an RPi3 to get it working? Let us know. - Mark

Hey Mark,

So I did change the number of leds to 50. I also did change my Raspberry Pi to the 3. I followed all the same steps as your video and text and it worked perfect. I aactually just redid the test again and it seems to be registering the correct led to light up. Not sure what I did but it seems to be working now. Ill keep you posted after I edit the airports.

Great news! Thanks for the feedback on the RPi 4. I'm going to have to do some testing on one. I haven't built a board using an RPi4 yet. So I'll try to grab one and test it out. - Mark
